Job Description



CareFlite is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit ambulance service sponsored by Baylor Scott & White Health, JPS Health Network, Methodist Health System, Parkland, and Texas Health Resources. CareFlite provides medical transport by helicopter, airplane, and ground ambulance, and non-medical transport via wheelchair van.

Position Type: Full-time, non-exempt

Position Summary
The Air Transport Paramedic provides advanced critical care and life support to critically ill or injured patients during air, ground, and ECMO transport operations. This role includes assessing patient conditions, performing advanced medical interventions within CareFlite’s scope of practice, and ensuring safe, efficient, and timely transport. The Air Transport Paramedic works collaboratively with nurses, pilots, dispatch, and healthcare professionals to deliver compassionate, patient-focused care while maintaining accurate documentation and adhering to safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards.

Qualifications



Working Conditions

  • Hours: Full-time, crews are assigned to a 24 on 72 off schedule to include holidays etc. based on staffing 365 days.
  • Overtime: May be required based on mission demand or emergencies. All overtime must be pre-approved unless related to emergent patient transport.
  • Work Environment: Aircraft, ground ambulances, ECMO vehicles, hospitals, and outdoor settings. Exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, vibration, confined spaces, and operational hazards. PPE required.
  • Travel: Frequent travel within the assigned service area; occasional overnight stays for patient transport, training, or inter-facility transfers.
  • Special Requirements: Compliance with state/federal licensure and certification, annual clinical competencies, mandatory training, and flight/critical care credential maintenance.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to perform prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting/carrying patients/equipment up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Must successfully pass background check, drug screen, physical assessment, and audiology test.
  • Maximum allowable weight: 230 lbs. in full flight gear.
  • Exposure to loud noise, vibration, exhaust, rotating blades, and bodily fluids.
  • Must demonstrate emotional resilience, multitasking ability, situational awareness, and professional composure under high-stress conditions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate/bachelor’s preferred)
  • Current Texas Paramedic licensure
  • Certifications: BCLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP (preferred upon hire; all required prior to air orientation completion)
  • TPATC or ATLS audit preferred upon hire; required prior to air orientation completion
  • Minimum 3 years (4,000 hours) experience in a busy 911 system as primary/lead care provider
  • FP-C or CCEMT-P preferred; FP-C required within 18 months of hire (first attempt within 12 months of hire date)

Interview Process

  • Virtual Interviews: Week of Nov 17 – Dec 1
  • In-Person Interviews: December 15th. This is a 3–4-hour process, including:
    • Clinical panel interview
    • Hands-on simulation lab scenarios
    • Multiple choice exam
    • Physical assessment to include weigh-in
